Whole School Approach, Bilton School - Update
A big thank you to those of you who came to the parent planning meeting, it was lovely to meet so many of you and we are really grateful for your input into how we should approach this project in school. It has been decided that as part of our parent and caregiver engagement and training we will put together some training around anxiety and self-esteem, some information about family wellbeing and some additional information about self-harm. Unfortunately due to the current circumstances, we are unsure when this training will take place but we will keep you updated as and when we know more.
Prior to the school closures and restricted movement measures, we spent some time in school with staff delivering training about how to have a conversation about mental health and have agreed an action plan with the school as to what interventions we can deliver in school. We are looking at what we can make available online and initially, we will be aiming to send materials out about self-esteem and confidence to all age groups.
Staff in school will be given the Your Voice Matters programme this week which they can share with students; this is a set of nine ten minute sessions, which are usually delivered in form time to encourage all the students to seek support if they need it and to encourage students to talk more openly about mental health. It is important at this tricky time that we encourage everyone in our community to talk openly about how they are feeling.
We are currently working on resources we can share with young people digitally, and we know that a lot of young people are very upset with the news about exams being cancelled. We will be working with school staff to help support anyone who is affected by this. As part of our parent engagement work, we will also be sharing some strategies around family wellbeing and making the most of this unexpected time together.
If you are concerned about the current Covid-19 pandemic there is some advice on the national Mind website: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing/
If you want to contact us to discuss any aspect of mental health, you can contact us on the Whole School Approach email address: WSA_Bilton@cwmind.org.ukwhich we will be monitoring regularly. We will be sending out regular updates to you over the coming weeks and sharing information electronically about different aspects of engaging with others about mental health.
Best wishes to you all at this difficult time.

Whole School Approach - Bilton - weekly check in (7th April)
We hope you are all keeping well. We are getting into the swing of working from home and wondering how we ever had time to get to the office!
We have put together some information about the 5 ways to wellbeing and will be sending you information about one of the 5 ways each week. There are two documents that go with the weekly newsletter this week: the first is some information about wellbeing and how we can use the five ways to wellbeing during this time; the second is some more detailed information about ways in which you can engage with the first of the five ways to wellbeing to strengthen your connections with those around you.
The five ways to wellbeing are widely used to help improve wellbeing and they are very accessible to all. Please do share this information with anyone you know who is struggling and do contact us if you need any more information.
If you wish to speak with someone about your own mental health or if you are concerned about your child, you can contact us on your dedicated school email address: WSA_Bilton@cwmind.org.ukand if as a parent you have some concerns about the current Covid-19 pandemic, there is some useful advice on the national Mind website: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing/
In addition to the information attached about the five ways to wellbeing the team have also been working on resources for children and young people specifically aimed at getting through the Covid-19 pandemic: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/for-children-and-young-people/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing Again, please share this link with anyone who needs it.
Stay safe and we hope you are able to make use of the attached information.
